I use TikTok to promote my service-based business. What do I do if it gets banned?
First of all…take a deep breath.
Yes, the TikTok ban might be happening. But not for a little while.
You still have time. So let’s use it wisely.
Here’s 4 things I’d recommend to do if you’re worried about the TikTok ban.
Move platforms
Sounds obvious, but this needs to be done strategically.
Think about what other platforms your ideal clients use that would also allow you to showcase your expertise just as effectively.
For example, you find the answer is LinkedIn.
Start posting on LinkedIn now, while you’re still active on TikTok, so you can begin building your audience on a new platform without starting from scratch.
You can then start to move your TikTok audience over to LinkedIn at the same time.
Repurpose your content
You don’t need to create more work for yourself.
Using the TikTok content you’ve already created and posting it in other places is a smart thing to do.
Download your TikTok videos and post them on other platforms like Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, or Facebook.
This way, you’re showing up in more places and reaching more people without extra work.
It’s a win-win: more visibility with less effort.
Pro tip: this is a good idea to do anyway as you get more out of your content without actually doing more.
Build a mailing list
If this TikTok ban can’t convince you to start a mailing list, I don’t know what will.
This is because you don’t own your TikTok followers, but you do own the contacts in your mailing list.
Meaning no platform, algorithm change, or government can take that away from you.
How do you start getting people’s emails? Give them something valuable they can access or download.
The most effective way to do this is to create a lead magnet. This is something you can give to someone in exchange for their email address.
Here are some ideas:
Build your personal brand
Building your personal brand is a great way of getting your business out there without relying on social media.
For example, you could be a guest on a podcast, or write an article for a magazine.
This way, you’re tapping into other people’s audiences and making them aware of your business too.
Your personality and expertise are what your clients connect with, after all. So don’t be afraid to show that in other ways!
A reminder
You still have time.
But the potential TikTok ban is a reminder that platforms come and go.
Focus on creating valuable content that builds trust and solves problems for your clients, no matter where it’s shared.
And please start building your mailing list. Seriously, if there’s one thing to take away from this - it’s that.
Your business will thank you for it.
